Stage for Jazz
Local jazz guitarist, composer and international touring artist Teriver Cheung will kick off Stage for Jazz, a mini series of live jazz concerts, at The Muse, Hotel Stage, every Wednesday evening, beginning on 20 March 2019. The first in the series features jazz recording and performing artist, Angelita Li, a familiar name on the Asian and international jazz touring circuit.
A native of Hong Kong, Teriver studied with Fred Hamilton at the University of North Texas on a scholarship and toured extensively with celebrated jazz artists including bassist and Latin Grammy Award winner Eddie Gómez. His debut album, My Nocturne, received rave reviews from the renowned magazine, JazzTimes. Back in Hong Kong, Teriver curated the multi-media concert “Hong Kong Episodes” in 2015 for the 10th Year Anniversary of Hong Kong World Cultures Festival, followed by a ten-city world tour in 2017. Not long after, he founded Ensemble Transience and released their first album “Episodes” in Jan 2019. The album received a 4 out of 5 stars at “All About Jazz” and was reviewed as “a fitting snapshot of the contradictions bubbling beneath “Asia’s World City,” and a stunning artistic statement from one of its greatest talents.”
Jazz singer Angelita Li is a virtuoso of Latin and Brazilian music, and a great fan and interpreter of a vast variety of music genre, including the works of the late Brazilian giant Antonio Carlos Jobim, whose immortal “The Girl from Ipanema” remains one of the most recorded Bossa Nova songs in history. In addition to Brazilian and Latin, Angelita has spread her repertoire throughout Asia and the U.S. over the years, wooing audiences with her renditions of popular jazz classics such as Summertime and Blackbird.
Stage for Jazz, a mini series of live jazz concerts, is presented by Hotel Stage at The Muse, in the basement of the hotel, every Wednesday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, beginning on 20 March 2019. The programme features Teriver Cheung on guitar, with guest appearances from other jazz artists each week. There is no cover charge for the event and reservation is recommended. The line-up for the first four concerts is as follows:
|20 March||Angelita Li (vocal), Brazilian and Latin, featuring music by Antonio Carlos Jobim|
|27 March||Blaine Whittaker (saxophone), tribute to Bop|
|3 April||Scott Dodd (bass), music by Pat Metheny, and Charlie Haden’s Beyond the Missouri Sky|
